Description
Rape ‘Giant English’ (also known as ‘Giant Essex’ or “English Giant”) is a robust cultivar of rape (Brassica napus), a member of the Brassica or cabbage family. While rape is widely known globally for its oil-rich seeds, which are processed into canola oil, the ‘Giant English’ variety is primarily prized for its large, dark green leaves. These leaves have a slightly bitter and peppery flavour, making them a popular leafy green vegetable, especially in African cooking, where they are often cooked with other ingredients. This highly productive and easy-to-grow variety can be harvested and prepared much like other garden greens, with its broad leaves cooking quickly due to their minimal stem content.
